hello

I bought my son this desktop a couple of years ago ( product ID 2c6r6ea#abu)

I'm trying to find compatible  RAM as it only has 8gb, wanting to put a 16gb kit in.

also can the graphics card be upgraded on this motherboard?

@nbksaske,

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!

Your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop PC TG01-0000a is fitted either with an Erica motherboard (SSID: 8643) or a Rother motherboard (SSID: 8653).

If your desktop is fitted with an Erica motherboard, it can be fitted with up to 2 x 16GB of DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, DIMM (UDIMM), 288-pin RAM sticks.

If your motherboard is a fitted with a Rother motherboard, it can be fitted with up to 2 x 16GB of DDR4 PC4-21300, 2666 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, DIMM (UDIMM), 288-pin RAM sticks. You could install DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz RAM, but it will down throttle to 2666 MHz.

In either case, for best RAM performance, use identical RAM (same brand, model, and capacity).

In order to find out what RAM you got, type: cmd in your Windows search bar, click on the Command Prompt App.

Then copy/paste/enter: wmic memorychip get devicelocator, manufacturer, partnumber, capacity, speed

And you'll see something like this:

Please provide this information.

You can find out what motherboard you got by typing in: system information in your Windows search bar, and by clicking on the System Information App. Look to the right of "BaseBoard Product" and look at the number displayed there. Please provide.

As far as upgrading/adding a graphics card, you either got a stock 400-watt power supply, or a 310-watt power supply. In order to assist you, it is important to know what we are working with. Meaning, if your desktop got a 400-watt power supply (p/n: L04618-800 -please verify), it would allow you to power a more powerful graphics card. So, you'll have to open up the side panel and provide the power supply's part number.

@nbksaske,

OK, there are a couple of ways to go forward: you could double your RAM by adding an identical Samsung M378A1K43CB2-CTD 8GB RAM or equivalent 8GB RAM stick in the second RAM slot, such as these eBay-UK or Amazon-Great Britain purchase options: Samsung M378A1K43CB2-CTD for sale | eBay, and/or: A-Tech 8GB RAM Replacement for Samsung M378A1K43CB2-CTD | DDR4 2666MHz PC4-21300 1Rx8 1.2V UDIMM Non....

As far as a graphics card upgrade is concerned, it would be nice to know what GPU your son is currently playing with.

Regardless, a very nice graphics card upgrade for his PC (without changing the power supply) would be an RTX 4060 8GB, specifically a model that can be powered with one 8-pin PCIe power cable such as this purchase option: GIGABYTE RTX 4060 WINDFORCE OC Specs | TechPowerUp GPU Database.

Hi

Sorry for the late reply,

So decided to go for an extra samsung ram stick that you linked me.

As for the gpu, it currently has an rx 5500 4gb

That gpu you recommended, with the ryzen 3 3200g cpu, should work well together?

Thanks

@nbksaske,

Firstly, you cannot go wrong with an RTX 4060, as it would provide a hugely better graphics performance compared with an RX 5500: UserBenchmark: AMD RX 5500 vs Nvidia RTX 4060.

Thing is, if I were to upgrade your son's gaming platform, I would also consider upgrading the lower-end AMD Ryzen 3 3200G (4-Cores, 4-Threads, 3.60 GHz up to 4.00 GHz) for an AMD Ryzen 5 3500* (6-Cores, 6-Threads, 3.60 GHz up to 4.10 GHz).  You can purchase one of these CPUs via eBay-United Kingdom for under eighty quid: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284789976836?epid=13041266070&hash=item424ece2f04%3Ag%3AmcMAAOSwnBJh3rVy&....

* Please note: NOT the 3500X version!

The difference in processor power would nicely match the increased graphics card performance: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-5-3500-vs-AMD-Ryzen-3-3200G/4053vsm824486, and you would create something very similar to this HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-0xxx User: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/63296735.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
