I have an HP external hard drive - HP SIMPLESAVE 1TB - that I've used for a few years with my Windows PC that was running windows 7. I recently upgraded to WINDOWS 10 (64 bit) and now I cannot access my HP external drive. It isn't recognized and software is inaccessible. I have seen others with the same problem, but have not seen any viable solutions. Can someone please advise? I need to access the files on the backup drive and I no longer have a computer with Windows 7.

@carolr513 , welcome to the forum.
What is the actual model of your SimpleSave drive? The reason you have seen no viable solution to your problem is, HP doesn't provided software and drivers for older products, especially when the operating system changes. I will see what I can do to help you when I have the model.

Hi old_geekster ...(love the user name). I have the HP SimpleSave Model No: hp md1000h
Anything you can help me with it I would greatly appreciate! I still can't understand why a company like HP wouldn't provide a Windows 10 patch for there old products. Thank you.

Thank you, @carolr513! I have been using computers since 1984 and still enjoy working with them. I am old (74 yoa), so, old_geekster seemed very appropriate.
I wish I had better news for you. However, I have run so many searches that my fingers are getting sore. There simply is no software or driver available for your drive. The best option that you have is, find someone who has a Win 7 computer that you can use. If you can't find a friend with one, there may be a local computer shop Tech who can help you recover your files.

A: It is a very complicated process to develop software and drivers that are compatible with all models; for all operating systems. Once HP has millions of computers to service they have to have a cut-off date when they no longer provide these items. Of course, all OEM manufacturers have basically the same policies.
