@Pjizzle -- did you copy a "shortcut" file? Such shortcuts point to a "target" on the computer that created the shortcut. Move the shortcut file to a different computer, and that "target" is not accessible.
If somebody tells you to drive west 50 km to reach some landmark, and you are in BC and that person is in Ontario, only one of you will be able to drive to the target, due to the difference in starting-points.
Shortcuts are similar -- they are "relative" to a starting point on the 1st computer -- not necessarily EVERY computer.

Hello
Hope you haven't erased data from External Drive
create a new folder (give it a name), for example on your desktop, open the
Open explorer, and your external drive
Move a document with the right click , lake , copy here , to the folder , check, if it works!
