@3wasy,

Welcome to our HP Community Forum!

Your HP Z240 Tower Workstation (with motherboard SSID: 802F) is fitted with a 400-watt power supply with p/n: 796416-001 or 796346-001 -please verify.  This power supply is equipped with one 6-pin PCIe power cable, which limits upgrading a graphics card to cards needing only one 6-pin PCIe power supply cable such as a GTX 1060 6GB or a GTX 1650 Super.

You could use a 6-pin to 8-pin PCIe power adapter cable, BUT ONLY to power a lower-wattage graphics card such as a GTX 1660 Super, GTX 1660 Ti, RTX 3050, or an RTX 4060 powered by a single 8-pin PCIe power cable, such as this modelDisclaimer: these PCIe power cable adapters are not recommended or approved by HP.

You could also use an ATX to HP Z240 power adapter cable, such as seen in this Amazon-US link (but available anywhere else too): Amazon.com: YEZriler 24 Pin to 6 Pin ATX Power Adapter Sleeved Cable for HP Z200 Z230 4300 6080 8080..., as long as its specs specifically mention the HP Z240:

By using one of these ATX power adapter cables, you can swap your original power supply with any industry standard ATX power supply, as long as you watch its dimensions (LxWxH) for fit inside your case.

Disclaimer: these ATX power cable adapters are not recommended or approved by HP either.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
