Good day!

I was thinking about upgrading my i5-4460 processor to a i7-4790K. However i am not sure my board supports it. It is the same socket (LGA 1150) and the i7 is within the maximum TDP of the MB (Memphis2-S) of 88 W.

However on the MB specifications (https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c04648625), the i7-4790K does NOT appear on the possible upgrades of the MB. I know i would run it at stock frequencies and not overclock as the mb would not support it. Am i missing anything?

It should work right? Despite the MB not saying that it supports that CPU?

Cheers!

Hi @HolyMolyCannoly,

Thank you for replying,

I understand you want to know if it can support i7-4790 so, why can't it support i7-4790K. Now going through the support website, those are the list which is tested on this PC. If you wish, to install you could go ahead and do it at your discretion.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help.

Hi @Jeet_singh

Thank you for your response

However i think it doesn't make much sense. I know what you already told me.

But why can't it support the i7-4790K?

It can support the i7-4790 and the i5-4690K (so it can support K versions!)

The TDP is within the MB limits. It is the same socket...

So why it doesn't support it?

Thank you in advance for your response
