The PC has a smart battery and smart charger which will stop charging the battery when it reaches 100% charge.

HP consumer class notebooks do not support a BIOS setting to limit the battery charge to 80%.

@Omaih,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Yes, your HP Laptop 14s-cf2xxx has built-in battery overcharge protection. Like most modern HP laptops, it includes a smart charging system that prevents overcharging by stopping the charging process once the battery reaches 100%. When fully charged, the laptop switches to AC power directly if the charger remains plugged in, helping to preserve battery health.

To further optimize your battery lifespan, consider these tips:

  1. Check for HP Battery Health Manager (if available in your BIOS):

    • Restart your laptop and press F10 to enter the BIOS.
    • Navigate to the Advanced or Power section.
    • If Battery Health Manager is available, enable Adaptive Battery Optimization to help extend battery life.
  2. Avoid keeping the laptop plugged in at 100% for extended periods – occasional discharges help maintain battery longevity.

  3. Use HP software to manage battery settings: Some HP laptops support software-based charge limits to prevent long-term degradation.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to checking which HP battery management tools are available on your HP Laptop 14s-cf2xxx:

1. Check for HP Battery Health Manager in BIOS:

  1. Restart your laptop and repeatedly press F10 during boot to enter the BIOS.
  2. Navigate to the Advanced or Power Management section.
  3. Look for Battery Health Manager or similar settings:
    • If available, enable Adaptive Battery Optimization or a similar option.
  4. Save changes and exit (F10 to save and restart).

👉 If this option is not available, proceed to the next steps.

2. Check for HP Power Manager:

(This is usually for business-class HP laptops, but it’s worth checking.)

  1. Open Windows Search (Win + S) and type HP Power Manager.
  2. If installed, open the app and look for battery settings like Charging thresholds.
  3. If you don’t have it, your model likely doesn’t support this feature.

👉 If not available, move to the next check.

3. Use HP Support Assistant for Battery Health Check:

  1. Open HP Support Assistant (Win + S > type HP Support Assistant).
  2. Navigate to Battery & Performance (or similar).
  3. Run a Battery Check to see battery health status.

4. Windows Battery Settings (Built-in Tools):

  1. Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery.
  2. Enable Battery Saver to reduce power usage when on battery.
  3. Check if Smart Charging is available under Battery Settings (some Windows 11 devices have an automatic battery protection mode).

👉 Conclusion: If HP Battery Health Manager or HP Power Manager is not available, use HP Support Assistant for diagnostics and Windows battery settings for basic power management.

Kind Regards,
