Hi @Stscy
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your keyboard and mouse combo are not working, there could be a variety of reasons behind the issue, ranging from hardware problems to software or connectivity issues. Let’s go through a checklist to help you troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
1. Check the Battery (If Wireless)
If you're using a wireless keyboard and mouse, the first thing you should check is the battery.
- Replace the batteries with new ones, even if they are not completely drained. Sometimes old batteries may still appear to work but won't supply enough power.Re-pair the keyboard and mouse if they have a dedicated USB receiver or dongle (unplug and reinsert the receiver into the USB port).
- If they use rechargeable batteries, ensure that they are fully charged.
2. Check the USB Receiver (If Wireless)
If you have a wireless combo with a USB receiver, make sure that the receiver is properly connected:
- Remove and reconnect the USB receiver in a different USB port.
- If the receiver has a light indicator, check to see if it is blinking or lit up. If not, it might be faulty.Test the receiver on another device to make sure it’s not the issue.
3. Test with Different USB Ports (For Wired or Wireless)
If your combo is wired, or if the wireless receiver is connected via USB, try switching to another USB port.
- Use a USB 2.0 port (usually located in the back of the PC) instead of a USB 3.0 port (front or side of the PC). Some devices may not be fully compatible with certain USB versions.
- If using a USB hub, try connecting the receiver directly to a port on the computer.
4. Check for Interference (For Wireless Keyboards/Mouse)
Wireless devices can sometimes experience interference from nearby electronics like routers, microwaves, or even Bluetooth devices.
- Try moving your keyboard and mouse combo and receiver further away from other electronics.
- If possible, test the device on a different computer to rule out interference.
5. Restart Your Computer
Sometimes the issue can be solved simply by restarting the computer. This resets the system, which can resolve any temporary software or driver-related issues.
6. Check Device Manager for Issues (For Wired or Wireless)
Check your Device Manager for any hardware issues related to your keyboard and mouse.
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" and "Keyboards" sections to check if your devices are listed.
- If you see any yellow exclamation marks or error messages, it indicates a problem with the drivers.
- Right-click on the device and select Update driver to ensure that the latest drivers are installed.
If the keyboard or mouse is not listed, try unplugging and reconnecting the devices.
7. Try the Devices on Another Computer
Test both the keyboard and mouse on a different computer to rule out the possibility that the problem is with the combo itself. If they work on another computer, the issue might be with your current system's drivers or settings.
8. Reinstall the Drivers
It’s possible that your keyboard and mouse drivers have become corrupted. Here’s how to reinstall them:
- Go to Device Manager.
- Right-click on your keyboard and mouse devices under "Keyboards" and "Mice," then choose Uninstall device.
- Restart the computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the required drivers.
9. Reset the Keyboard and Mouse (For Wireless Models)
If your keyboard and mouse are still not responding, and they have a reset button on the back, you can try resetting them:
- Turn off the keyboard and mouse.
- Press and hold the reset button (if available) for a few seconds, then power them back on.
- Try re-pairing the keyboard and mouse to the receiver.
I hope this helps.
