I have a prodesk 400 g2 mini (pn: W5Z13UT#ABA). I was looking to upgrade the hard drive and I noticed that the 400 g2 mini has an M.2 2280 slot. however, I can't seem to figure out if it is ngff or pcie or what. I have an ssd hard drive from a broken laptop. the hard drive is a pn: MZNLN256HMHQ-000H1 (HP PN: 855635-001) and I was wondering if it is compatible.

Yes. It is compatible.
That particular HP part is actually a Samsung PM871 M.2 SSD. It is a 3d v-nand (TLC) M.2/B-M-Key (SATA 6Gb/s)
spec SSD and sips power.
See the Maintenance & service guide for your notebook series chapter 2 page 11. (be aware that it is a tech manual and as such, not so easy for everyone to get relevant data out of it)
