I don't think the model will matter, however, mine is a Pavilion Slimline s5510f.
With thanks from this forum, I have determined that I need to replace my mother board. I have found HP support documentation on how to replace the mother board, but that leaves the question as to whether I have to do any type of programming of the new mother board or is the MB more or less a plug and play?
Thanks for any help.

Hi,
Actually you can't do anything with motherboard (only updating BIOS which is still in the hands of vendors). What you see is what you get or using your terms: it is a plug-and-play part.
Regards.
