I have the OMEN 30L Desktop - GT13-0280z CTO and I wanted to buy an AMD Ryzen 7 8700g, but I see my current OMEN motherboard is not compatible I was curious what my upgrade options are.

Hi @kelseynicholas,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are looking for information related to upgrading your PC.

It sounds like you're looking to upgrade your CPU in your OMEN 30L Desktop. Here’s a breakdown of your options:

Motherboard and CPU Compatibility:

  • The OMEN 30L GT13-0280z typically comes with a motherboard that supports Intel processors, given the Intel naming convention of your current CPU. This means it’s likely not compatible with AMD Ryzen processors directly, as AMD and Intel use different socket types and chipsets.

Steps to Take

Check Your Current Motherboard Specifications:

  • Look up the exact model of your motherboard (usually found in your PC's manual or through system information tools) and check its CPU compatibility list.

Research Compatible Upgrades:

  • For an Intel-based upgrade, look at higher-tier Intel CPUs that fit your current motherboard.
  • For an AMD upgrade, you’ll need a new motherboard, and possibly new RAM, and potentially a new case or power supply depending on form factors and power requirements.
