HP Touchsmart 610-1280qd
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

July of 2017, my touchscreen computer overheated twice in a week.  Since then the built in mouse keeps randomly clcking on the desktop.  It normally goes to the upper left hand corner of the screen and will open whatevere is there.  It also opens up web browsers or the start menu.  Tried the remove the mouse from the control panel since it shows up 4 times.  But after deleting it, the mouse stops working so have to reboot.  After rebooting all mice show back up.  Doesnt happen constantly.  Normally last 5 to 15 minutes and just randomly happens through the day.

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums.

I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP TouchSmart 610-1280qd desktop PC and post overheating two times, the mouse pointer works by itself. There is random clicking on the screen and will open programs from the upper left hand corner of the screen. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.

Is the PC still overheating or has it stopped overheating now?

Have you tried connecting another USB mouse (if available) and checked if the issue persists?

Meanwhile, let us check how the mouse works in the recovery manager of the PC. The following steps will help:

  • Shutdown the laptop.
  • Power on the laptop and immediately hit the f11 key repeatedly (7-8 times).
  • This should open the recovery manager screen. NOTE: If the original operating system was deleted by you then the recovery manager screen may not appear.
  • Now, let the PC be left in observation and check if the mouse malfunctions. If the mouse malfunctions here then it indicates towards a hardware issue. In such a case you may contact our HP phone support team to check the available service options.

If the mouse works fine in the recovery partition then let us uninstall the mouse drivers and reinstall them. The following steps will help:

  • Open the device manager.
  • Expand "Mice and other pointing devices".
  • Right click on the mouse drivers in there and select uninstall.
  • Close the device manager and restart the PC.
  • While restarting, Windows will reinstall the mouse drivers.

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Keep me posted.

Cheers! 🙂

You're welcome.

Glad to have you back.

I understand that the issue persists with the wired and wireless mouse too.

Did the mouse work the same way in the recovery manager screen? If yes then the points towards a hardware issue and you may contact our HP phone support team to check the available service options for your PC.

Let me know. Cheers! 🙂

I put my desktop into recovery mode over night last night.  Obviously, the touchscreen is disabled in that mode and didnt work.  I had a wireless mouse connected all night and it worked just fine.  I put the mouse in the right of my screen, oppossite of the issue and it didnt move at all.  To me, it really sounds like a hardware issue.

Thanks for responding.

As the mouse worked fine in the recovery manager indicates that it is not a hardware issue.

Did you uninstall and reinstall the mouse drivers as suggested in my first post?

Secondly, I also found that at times when the mouse is kept on a glossy surface, this might happen. Use a mouse pad to correct the problem: http://hp.care/2sqyzF5

Secondly, you may run a hardware test. The following steps will help:

  • Shutdown the PC.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  • On the main menu, click Component Tests.

Figure : Selecting Component Tests from the main menu

Selecting Component Tests from the main menu

  • The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.

Figure : Sample list of Component Tests

Sample List of the Component tests

  • Mouse/Touchpad Tests - There are two mouse tests to determine if the mouse is functioning correctly - the Pointer Test and the Drag and Drop Test.

To run the tests, click Mouse/Touchpad. Select the test you want to run, and then click Run once. Follow the instructions to complete the test.
NOTE: Bluetooth devices are not currently supported.

Hope this helps. Let me know the outcome.

Good luck! 🙂

Good evening,

I have tried the recovery system.  Where the touchscreen didnt work but the wireless mouse worked just fine.  I have tried to unistall and then reboot the mice.  There are four hid ports.  I remove them all and then cant use any mouse.  Remove all but 1 and I can use a mouse but still have the issue.  After I reboot the computer each time.  All four come back.  Although, I only have the touhscreen and 1 mouse connected to the computer.  Capture.PNG

I have attached the screenshot of the mice device.  I have tried the component test but my computer does not look like your examples.  When the computer is coming up and I hit esc until the menu comes up.  Then I hit F2, it takes me to a HP Hardware test and then after it completes, it ask to reboot.

At this point.  Do we think it could be a virus, or what else could be causing the issue.  It doesnt happen all the time.  Just when it does happen its quite annoying.  Even typing this, I have had to type it twice since, the mouse jumped to the upper left and hit the back button.

You've been fabulous to work with considering your superb technical skills, remarkable patience and great attitude. Kudos to you for that.

In case there was a virus then it would get deleted after reinstalling Windows. This PC originally came with Win7. are you reinstalling the retail copy of Win10?

Everything else seems to be in place. But the multiple entries of "HID-complaint mouse" should not have been there.

I suggest you to contact our HP phone support team to check the available service options for your PC.

Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck! 🙂
