@grannyandy

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

Are you using a wired or wireless keyboard?

Please note that if you are using a new bluetooth keyboard, then it will have a separate dongle different from the Mouse.

If it is a wired Keyboard, try connecting the keyboard in the same USB port as the Mouse and check if that works to ensure it's not an issue with the USB port

Keep me posted

Thank you 😊

@grannyandy,

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

I recommend you use the onscreen keyboard and login to your computer.

Here is how it is done.

Click on the icon Ease of Access on the bottom right on the login screen, which includes several options to assist users with disabilities. The option we’re looking for is On-Screen Keyboard. Click or tap it and you’ll see a full-size virtual replica of a standard keyboard layout appear on the screen. Enter the password using the onscreen keyboard and login to the computer.

Once you have logged in to the computer check whether the keyboard is working. If no, then uninstall the keyboard driver from device manager and then restart the computer and check.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Start Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Device Manager.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

that is the problem I cannot put the password in even the on screen keyboard will not let me it does nothing. If I could get into it maybe I could figure out what has happened but if I cannot put my password in cannot do anything

@grannyandy

Since the onscreen keyboard does not work as well, this seems to be an issue with the Windows

I suggest you Reset the computer. Please follow the instructions in this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04742289

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and Happy New Year 😊
