you need to understand that you are talking about two completely different things the PCI-e spec covers the different revisions which currently ranges from v1.0 to v5 on the newest Intel (and now AMD boards) motherboards

all revisions' are backward compatible however using a lower specced pci-e device in a higher pci-e specced motherboard will not give you an speed increase currently the most common pci-e plugin devices/motherboard pci-e is v3 and v4

read the link below for a detailed description on this

https://insights.samsung.com/2022/10/17/pcie-4-0-vs-pcie-3-0-whats-the-difference-2/#:~:text=PCIe%20....

next you have the PCI-E x1 to x16 spec which describes the number of pci-e data links which actually transfer the data between the pci-e add in card and motherboard most motherboards will have a pci-e x16 slot for the video card and pci-e x1 and perhaps pci x4 and x8 slots for various other add-in cards again more info can be found in the link below

https://www.trentonsystems.com/blog/pci-express-interface#:~:text=Summary%20of%20PCI%20Express%20Int...

you computer has one PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot, and if you install a pci-e 4.0 x16 video card, it will work however the speed of the card will be approx. half of the listed video speed due to your systems pci-e 3.0 bus speed

here's the link to your HP systems specs:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-desktop-pc-m01-f1000i/32482405/model/35801263/document/c0668...

your motherboard uses the Intel B460 chipset which only supports pci-e 1.0 to 3.0

the AMD rx6500 xt specs: (the card has not been generally reviewed favorably, you might want to look at other card models)

thank you DGroves for taking your time and writing to me. I can only spend $200 what kind of GPU you recommend

" what kind of GPU you recommend"

answer: one that you can afford

to be more specific, i would need to know what applications you want to run

some apps favor professional cards some games favor nvidia or AMD

if possible......... for nvidia stay with the 10xx series or newer for AMD the 67xx or higher

on ebay the 1070/1080 plain and "TI" models can be found used for under 200.00 and the plain 1080 non TI are not worth more than 200.00 so don't overpay
