I currently have
i have i5-7400 @ 3 GHz
My Device
OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 870-224
I see I can up grade to an i7-7700K, but I see a bunch of model numbers for that as well in Newegg. What model number do I need and can I install that myself? (I have the tools and have done a few things on the boards in the past)
thank you!!!!
If so, there are several model numbers to choose from. I haven't switched out any of the other boards, so what ever model number that support the original setup should be fine. Please let me know if I need a whole new mother board or just the processor!!! thank you

Even if you install the i7-7700K, that processor also does not meet Microsoft's minimum processor requirements of an 8th generation core or newer processor.
If you want to upgrade the processor anyway, I recommend you find a used but tested and working i7-7700K processor on eBay.
