my PC is only 6 months old. Sometimes i have noticed when using the PC the screen goes black for a short while. Yesterday when i turned on the pc the monitor was black and nothing came up. I thought the obvious and connected a different monitor which is fine but it was still black. So then i tried yet another good monitor but still black. today i plugged in the initial monitor and it worked fine. The PC appears to work most times but has issues. please help. I am 76 years old and have limited knowledge in this area.

Greetings @TezzaW

Welcome to the HP Forum.

I'm 72. Good to see we are hanging in there!

Your PC seems to have an intermittent: hardware problem or possibly a driver problem. Intermittent problems are tough to diagnose.

Your PC's video out problem doesn't seem to be related to a specific monitor.

Did the PC startup (fans spinning, startup sounds, or keyboard activity) when you turned on the PC yesterday? I know you did not have video out.

The video cable might need replacing. Are the connections to the monitor and the graphics card secure?

Try checking hardware first when the PC is doing video out.

Check your PC's hardware using HP Diagnostics as follows:

Start the PC. Repeatedly tap the "ESC" key.

Select "F2". Run extensive system and component tests to confirm: a drive problem, a memory problem, or other component problem (possibly graphics).

Let the Forum know how hardware tests do.

Hi Bill

thanks for your thoughts. Luckily enough Aryan from HP rang me and assisted in my problem. You were on the right track it had something to do with a driver.

cheers and merry christmas
