HP Pavilion p6604f Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

What are the largest CPU that are compatible with this Hp H-RS880-uATX Motherboard? Recently I discovered a Phenom 1055T for sale and it is a 6 core but also it is only 95 watts. If my memory serves me correctly, this board is maxed out for CPU support at 95 watts and this particular Phenom is the 95 Watt 1055T? Currently this p6000f is running on an Athlon 640 that I upgraded to from the original 2 core processor and running well on Windows 10 Home64 bit.

@hennmann,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Having done some research on the topic, your HP Pavilion p6604f Desktop PC (BV595AA) allows a TDP max of 95 watt on AMD 2+/AMD3 processors.

To answer your question, and given that the AMD Athlon II X4 640 (95-watt TDP) is compatible with your desktop, please note that there are two different versions of the Phenom II X6 1055T processor - HDT55TWFK6DGR with a 95-watt Thermal Design Power (TDP), and the HDT55TFBK6DGR with a 125-watt TDP.

The 95-watt version is compatible, whereas the 125-watt is not.

@hennmann , welcome to the Community.

According to the information that I could find on your computer, here are the compatible processors:

Processor upgrade information

  • Max TDP: 95W
  • Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
    NOTE:
Only Socket AM3 processors are supported with this motherboard.
    • AMD Phenom II X6 10xxT Six-Core (Thuban core)
    • AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb core)
    • AMD Phenom II X3 7xx/7xxe Triple-Core (Heka core)
    • AMD Phenom II X2 5xx (Callisto core)
    • AMD Athlon X4 6xx/6xxe (Propus)
    • AMD Athlon X3 4xx/4xxe (Rana)
    • AMD Athlon X2 2xx/2xxe (Regor)
    • AMD Sempron Single Core 1xx (Sargas core)

These are the only processors that have been fully tested to assure they are compatible.  Any other processors will most likely not be compatible.

Actually the Athlon 640 quad is listed as AM2/AM3 and is working very well and during my search I discovered both the 95 and 125 Watt versions of the 1055 and the part number of the one I discovered is 95 Watts as well. This is no surprise to me about the wattage because I have both a Gigabyte and MSI motherboard, the MSI is AM2, and the Gigabyte is AM3 like this board and all are limited to 95 watts due to the voltage regulator circuits, just like my 970sli Krait Edition is limited to 125 watts with the FX8370 being the biggest CPU option. On all these boards, installing a larger wattage CPU will overload the voltage regulator circuit.

Oh and there is a considerable difference in cost between the Phenom 1055T and the Phenom 1065T and the difference in performance is negligible compared to the cost. Since expansion capabilities are quite limited such as no PCI slots as well as other options are quite limited I figured this computer would be perfect for streaming and yes it is a very stable, great working board so it is good enough.

And yes thank you to both of you for your information. I have no manual because this perfectly fine hardware was rescued from the recycle bin and looks like it was well taken care of. Of all the specs I have found about this particular model, it is listed as having a quad core, I think an Athlon 630 slightly smaller than what I stuck in during my upgrade from the AM2/3 dual core which some had.
