Hi @PDXDanWells,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I’m sorry you’re running into this hassle. I’ll keep this short and clear.
Short answer
We do not sell that proprietary 4-pin “SATA0” motherboard power cable as a regular retail part through the HP online store. That cable is a factory/proprietary harness used by some HP small-form-factor and OEM desktops and is not interchangeable with standard PSU SATA power plugs in many systems.
What the cable does / why it’s special
- That 4-pin square header is not the same as a standard Molex or SATA PSU power connector; it’s a motherboard/processor power harness that routes 5V/12V from the power supply (or from an internal adapter) to the drive bay via a keyed, proprietary housing.
- Because the connector and pinout can vary between models, using a random adapter risk damaging the drive or motherboard.
Options you can take:
Authorized service/reseller
- If HP parts are not available locally, an Authorized Service Center can often source the harness from HP inventory or replace the drive bay assembly that contains the cable.
Workaround (only if you understand risk)
- In a few HP systems, the PSU has a separate standard SATA power lead elsewhere in the chassis; an authorized technician can sometimes re-route or use that feed with a safe adapter. Do not attempt to jury-rig or re-pin the proprietary connector yourself unless you’re certain of the pinout. Improper wiring can permanently damage the motherboard or SSD.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
