pictures on old compaq presario desktop need keyboard with ps2 connections

compaq presario 1950NX  

I need old pics of grandkids and keyboard is shot, beyond repair, computer requires a PS/2 keyboard connection, I have several open USB ports available. does anyone know if this will work or not, I tried using a USB to PS@ adaptor and it did not work. computer boots up but gets locked on opening screen, keyboard did nothing. 

i can buy a ps2 keyboard for 35.00 but would rather not do that if possible.

@Dannyr911 , welcome to the Community.

I understand the need to get your grandkids pictures off of your old computer.  I believe that a USB keyboard should work.  However, I recommend buying a very inexpensive one locally that you can return.  Walmart is always good about returns within two weeks.  I have a USB keyboard that cost me $10.  It works great!

Thanks for the idea. I am going to try my good usb keyboard again, I didnt know if the ps2 would overide the usb input or was wired to only accept a ps2 connection for the keyboard input.  I tried an adaptor from usb to ps2 but it would do anything.

tried the adaptor again with no luck. trying to locate a ps2 keyboard and mouse next.
