I just bought a pavilion gaming desktop (tg01-1004) and was wondering if the corsair vengeance lpx ddr4 was compatible

No!  The Extreme Memory Profiles (XMP) that HP builds into their BIOS/UEFI are for their memory only.  Therefore, to get the speed from the memory you would have to buy the additional memory at the time of purchase.  None of the retail memory will run above the basic speed of 2133 MHz.

You can upgrade your RAM, you simply won't be able to attain the overclocked speed, 3200 MHz, etc.
