G4050 is working fine with 10.11.2. Make sure you Force Quit the first time you start up VueScan.
Step 1, Start up G4050.
Step 2, start up Vuescan (current verson is 9.5.33).
Step 3, Vuescan will hang (spin beach ball) you need to Force Quit ( Command+ option+ Esc) Vuescan.
Step 4, Restart VueScan. It should connect with the G4050.
I have been using my G4050 with no other issues.

There is now an ICA driver available to enable the G4050 to work in El Capitan.
For information about how to obtain the driver, go to http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04955447 (You might need to copy/paste the link into your browser url field).

I've been using VueScan successfully since I upgraded to El Capitan and discovered that HP had abandoned Mac users. Kudos to Ed Hamrick for continuously stepping up when HP turns away.
However...
I just upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.4 and accidentally discovered that my HP ScanJet G4050 is once again working!
I have been able to scan from within Preview, the HP Scanner application, and Prizmo.
