I have a HP Pavilion 590-p0070 desktop still under warranty. I f I up grade graphics to a cradr example gtx 640 would it void out warranty if I did it myself

Well, I always say: Warranty is a grey/gray area. If NO problem after the upgrade then NO problem. But if something went wrong due to the upgrade then this would be a big problem,

Would you clarify that "GTX 640", as it does not exist as stated. There is a GT640 (3 versions).
You 590-p0070 is circa 04/2018, and has UEFIvBIOS. The GT640 is a Legacy BIOS card. Some minor tweaks to the UEFIvBIOS is required to use this card. "To disable Secure boot, use the arrow keys to select Disable next to Secure Boot, and then select Enable next to Legacy Support".
