Hi,
I would like to purchase a Direct X10 or better graphics card for my HP Pavilion 595-p0074. But I want to know if my computer and cpu are compatible. I have a i5-8400 cpu processor and 32 gig of ram, 119GB SSD C: drive. Are there any particular cards you would reccomend and is the installation plug and play?

Welcome to our HP Community forum!
According to the specs, your HP Pavilion 595-p0074 (3LA57AA) as fitted with the Lincs motherboard (SSID: 843B) is powered by a 180-watt power supply (please verify), which can't power any meaningful graphics cards.
You can upgrade your power supply with either a 400-watt unit, with p/n: L04618-800 or 942332-001, or a 500-watt power supply, with p/n: 901759-013 or L05757-800.
Both power supplies can be purchased via trusted eBay Sellers.
With either a 400 or 500-watt power supply, and with budget in mind, you can power one of these cards: RTX 3060, RTX 2060, GTX 1660 Ti, GTX 1660 Super, or the GTX 1650 Super. Make sure you select a smaller-sized (dual fan) GPU model. All these cards support DirectX 12, which is what you should go for.
And yes, all of these upgrades are plug-and-play.
Kind Regards,
