While researching psu upgrade on tpo1-2234 w/ erica6 mobo, I am going to an hp p/n l04618-800. My current psu has 2- 4 pin connectors going to mobo, & 1- 6 pin that goes to pwrcmd on mobo. My psu wires going to pwrcmd are green, grey, purple, & black. (these are not listed in any order). As I look for the l04618-800, I am finding them with 3, 4, 5, 6 wires. Also found with additional connectors. HP tells me that l04618-800 is a suitable upgrade/replacement. What do the extra wires in that connector do?

Since HP did not mention this issue, can I assume that it will not be a problem?

@Dabbler7,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

A really good question.

No, you cannot assume that the different color wiring coding of the 7-pin "P2" power connector won't be a problem.

You do not want this wiring:

What you do want is this P2 wiring coding:

red, white, black, green, grey, empty, black.

Hope this was helpful.

Thank you. What is the purpose of the red, white, & black, that I don't have on the present psu?

@Dabbler7,

The red, white and (extra) black wires are there for power/control purposes for the 8-pin PCIe power cable:

Red: +5V (Voltage)
White: -5V (Voltage)
Black: Ground (GND)

Hope this was helpful.

Thank you again. I know now what I found hard to get an answer to previously.
