Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

I recently was gifted a refurbished computer from my girlfriend.  But, since I'm thinking about doing some minor upgrades to it (memory, SD drive, etc), when I look at the serial number on the tower itself and then look up the system information, I come up with two different models (Compaq Elite 8000 Small Form Factor vs Elite 8300 Small Form Factor - both with different serial numbers, too).

I've looked up upgrades for them both and came back with different parts (mainly from Crucial). So, how do I definitively find out which one I have?  Is there a hint to the actual model number inside the actual tower?

@WannaBeatle, welcome to the forum.

You should install the latest version of HP Support Assistant here.  Once it is installed add your computer and it will give you all of the information that you need.

I've installed the HP Support Assistant a couple of days ago. Both models popped up with the different serial numbers. So, I'm still confused.

But, my spidey senses are telling me that it's probably the 8000 Elite (though, it physically has the serial number, making it be the 8300). I'm still not 100% convinced either way, though.

it's actually quite easy the 8300 is UEFI compliant bios and the 8000 is legacy (no uefi)

so enter the bios, and if you see uefi options then it's the 8300

Hi

Maybe WinKey + R and type msinfo32?

Line 9 is the SKU which may tell us more.

Whoops  Late edit.

Piriform Speccy will help a lot also.
