Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all, new here so sorry if this is not the correct place....

Just got my new pc, all up to date and running fine.

Windows update wants to install a Fimware Update (HP Inc-Firmware - 15.21.0.0

My last HP PC died following a Firmware update.  Anyone know if this one is safe or how I can avoid it.

Hi:

According to the drivers on your PC's support page, W11 update wants to install the latest BIOS update for your PC (F.21):

Driver - HP Slim Desktop PC S01-pF2000i (4M0H6AV) | HP® Customer Support

Needless to say, since you were burned once, you may not want to allow that update to install.

You can hide/prevent that update from showing up by running the Microsoft Hide Windows Update utility that I zipped up and attached below.

Unzip and run the software.

It will check for pending updates and should find the HP Inc-Firmware - 15.21.0.0 update.

Check the box to hide the update.

The program will run again and report the problem is 'Fixed.'

Restart the PC and the update should not appear anymore.

I'll leave it up to you if you want to update the BIOS.

Make sure that your PCs BIOS has the same SSID family as the one in the link I posted (SSID 89B4).

Hi Paul, thanks for the speedy response.

I unzipped and ran the troubleshooter and it found the bios update .  I ticked it and ran it again and it green ticked it and said the problem was fixed.  However, when I restarted the pc and looked in windows update it was still There!

I'm not against updating the bios, when I visited the Support Assistant page this morning there were updates waiting including a bios update so I did it and it was successful (I trust HP updates a lot more than I do Windows ones !!!)

So I have an updated bios already and am not sure how windows will handle that.  Anyway I appreciate your help and will just have to see how it pans out.

Take care and thanks

Paul

You're very welcome.

Sometimes the update doesn't immediately go away.

You may have to run the Windows update utility again and it may say that it needs attention, and you click on the blue button and the update then vanishes.

I had updated the BIOS on one of my HP PC's from the support page and Microsoft still sent me the BIOS update.

I certainly was leery about trying to run it again, so I ran the hide windows update utility and it got rid of the update after I clicked on the blue update button when I saw that windows update 'needs attention.'

The update disappeared without installing.

Ran it again and when I checked this morning it had gone!

YOU'RE A STAR!!!!

Many thanks
