Hi @Duly,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP ENVY Desktop PC is not recognizing the DVD drive, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
- Check physical connections: Ensure that the DVD drive is properly connected to the motherboard. Make sure that the power cable and data cable are securely connected to the drive and the appropriate ports on the motherboard.
- Check device manager: Open the Device Manager on your computer to see if the DVD drive is listed and recognized. To do this, right-click on the Start button, select "Device Manager," and expand the "DVD/CD-ROM drives" category. If the DVD drive is not listed or has a yellow exclamation mark next to it, there may be a problem with the driver.
- Update drivers: Right-click on the DVD drive in the Device Manager and select "Update driver." Choose the option to search automatically for updated driver software. If any updates are found, let them install and then restart your computer.
- Check BIOS settings: Restart your computer and enter the BIOS or UEFI settings. Look for any settings related to the DVD drive and ensure that it is enabled. Save any changes made in the BIOS and restart your computer again.
- Test with different discs: Try using different DVDs or CDs to see if the issue is specific to a particular disc. Sometimes, certain discs may not be compatible with the DVD drive.
- Clean the drive: If the DVD drive is not recognizing any discs, it could be due to a dirty lens. Use a DVD lens cleaning kit to clean the lens of the drive.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
