Can I put the processorxeon e3 1240 v2 in the system hp compaq elite 8300,Motherboard Chipset Intel Panther Point Q77, Intel Ivy Bridge,Core i3-3220,BIOS Type v. 2.90 ?

Yes, actually I was able to manage running that exact processor inside the HP Elite 8300, with basically the same exact hardware. The only other thing I switched out was an SSD and HD replacement. The problem is, the system is very finicky with RAM. At first, I was unable to make it POST. However, after clearing CMOS and even doing the "remove battery" trick, I was finally able to make it POST. Once it got past that first POST, it was fairly stable and I was able to use it for over a year as a file server for a small business. So yes, it's doable. It just might take a little time.

I just wanted to confirm what the previous poster said. I put a Xeon E3-1240v2 in my 8300 CMT and it works fine. Just be sure to reset the CMOS; it may fuss at you a bit. Bios version 2.57 (figured I'd see if it would work with an old bios before updating it). Also, I have 16 gigs of Crucial DDR3 1600 MHz.
