My PC has 0 download speed, and as a student currently enrolled in an engineering program, it is crucial that I am able to download various things for my classes. I don't know why all of a sudden I am unable to download anything, but it just recently started. I've checked speedtest.net and every time I try to use a fix nothing happens for the download speed, but my upload speed has remained constant I have checked for malware, system updates, driver updates, and everything else I could find online but nothing worked. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Hi @N-C8,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating, especially with the need for downloads for your studies. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to address the issue with your HP OMEN Laptop - 17.
Reset Network Settings: Sometimes network settings can become corrupted. You can reset them:
- Open Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
- Scroll down to Network Reset and click on it.
- Click Reset Now and restart your laptop.
Check the TCP/IPv4 Settings: Make sure your IP settings are configured to obtain an IP address and DNS server automatically.
- Right-click the Network Icon in your taskbar and choose Open Network & Internet Settings.
- Click on Change adapter options.
- Right-click your network connection and select Properties.
- Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and make sure it’s set to Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.
Disable VPN or Proxy: If you’re using a VPN or proxy server, it could be affecting your download speeds. Disable any VPN or proxy servers to see if it helps.
Check for Background Processes: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check if any processes are using a significant amount of bandwidth or resources. This can sometimes cause slow downloads or other network issues.
Test in Safe Mode with Networking: Boot your computer in Safe Mode with Networking to check if any third-party software is causing the issue.
- Hold down the Shift key and click Restart from the Start menu.
- Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- After the restart, select 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode with Networking.
- Test your download speed again to see if it improves.
Update or Reinstall Network Drivers: Even though you've updated drivers, it's worth trying to uninstall and reinstall the network adapter drivers:
- Press Windows + X and choose Device Manager.
- Expand the Network Adapters section.
- Right-click on your network adapter and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop and Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers.
Try a Different DNS Server: Sometimes the default DNS can be slow. You could try changing it to a faster DNS provider, such as Google’s or Cloudflare’s DNS:
- Open Network & Internet Settings > Change Adapter Options.
- Right-click your network connection and select Properties.
- Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
- Choose Use the following DNS server addresses and enter:
- Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS)
- Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4 (Google DNS)
Test on Another Network: If possible, test your laptop on a different Wi-Fi network or a wired connection. This can help determine if the issue is related to your network or your laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
