24 digit failure ID code

HP Recommended
HP Envy m6 Notebook

I ran a extensive system test and got the 24 digit error code PLN5BD-7S89R6-XD7WLK-61C513. It's something to do with the hard drive but not really sure what exactly it means. I no longer have a warranty on my computer. What do I need to do? Am I going to have to buy a new hard drive? Can I fix the one I have and if so how?

I know very little about computers so I probably need a very detailed step-by-step process.

Thank you for your time!!

Sadly to say: Most of the time the 24 char disk failure id indicates the HDD is failing and it needs to be replaced. Is it still under warranty ? If Yes, please call HP for a replacement.

That means you have to replace HDD your self (or using a service). Your machine is actually a notebook/laptop  (your post is under Desktop - I will move to Laptops/Notebooks board). Since there are many generations of  HP Envy m6  machines, I don't know what is yours. I believe you upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1

Since your machine previously ran Windows 10, you can do a clean install W10 for free by using the media creation tool at the link below.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

The tool will allow you to make a bootable installation media (USB/DVD) and you can use installation media to install.

During the installation process if you are asked to enter a product key, check the 'Skip' box and W10 will install and then automatically activate once you are connected to the internet using the key embedded in BIOS of your machine.

Then you can install the drivers and available software you need from your PC's support page. Normally few Windows 10 updates can install nearly all drivers for you.

Page 48 of the following manual shows you how to replace HDD

Note: as mentioned above, I don't know your machine therefore the book may not be 100% applicable for your machine but should be very close.

Regards.
