I was baffled when for no apparent reason, booting up my computer resulted in 3 long beeps followed by four higher pitched beeps, repeating 5 times with the screen remaining black, but after the 5th round of beeping, the computer came on as normal and functioned normally. From then on, every time I switched on my computer this annoying sequence of beeps would happen on a black screen, but thankfully, the computer did come on and function normally. I came onto this forum for a solution and none worked except one - CHECK THAT THE POWER CORD IS PLUGGED INTO THE COMPUTER PROPERLY, and or, the power cord is plugged into the wall socket power supply properly. When I checked the back of my computer, the power jack was inserted but not fully. I pushed it in tight and the problem was resolved - no more beeps. Strangely there are websites that give all the HP computer beep codes and what they mean, but not for '3 long beeps and 4 short beeps.' For me, it was the computer indicating that the power cord wasn't plugged into the computer properly.
