Pavilion 500-281
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I find many instances of this problem and some are showing solved and archived. However, I find no answer as to how to solve the situation.

I am absolutely certain it is a false positive because I have removed the cooler/fan, cleaned everything spotless, replaced Thermal Paste and reset cooler. All dust blown out of system.

The cpu is being cooled and running at around 38C.

So, the problem is simply some setting or such and I cannot find it. If anyone knows the exact repair procedure please advise.

Many thanks.

Hey there! @dlr441, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you are getting an error: 511-CPU fan not detected on your PC.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

What is BIOS version on your PC?

You can use a can of compressed air to clean out all of the dust from all fans in the PC.  With the side panel off, power on the PC and again observe the fan rotational speed.  What do you see? slow, medium or high rotational speeds?

Open up the RUN Windows and enter: MSINFO32

Try restoring the BIOS to default on your PC and check if it helps.

Turn on your PC keep tapping the F10 key, you will boot into BIOS.

From the main or file menu select restore defaults.

Select F10 to save changes and exit.

Refer this article to know more information about CPU Fan Failed errors.

Also, try updating the BIOS on your PC and check it helps.

Update the drivers on your PC using HP support assistant.

I'll watch your reply!
