512 Rear Chassis Fan Not Detected

Hi all,

I recently upgraded the case on my PC from the original HP Pavilion to a Corsair 110R for better airflow and with the intention of including more fans.

I installed the 120mm Corsair fan that came with the new case, however, when I startup my PC I get the following error message:

512 Rear Chassis Fan Not Detected

I assume this is because the new fan is larger and more effeicient, so the RPM is lower than the old 90mm fan that was supplied with the HP Pavilion case?

The error message screen also includes "F1 to bootup" and "Setup" (or something similar).

Pressing F1 brought up a setup menu on one occasion (there was no option on there to edit the fan RPM speed at startup).

On all other occasions F1 did nothing.

I tried pressing every key on the keyboard and none of them allowed me to accesss the "Setup" option - which seems redundent if F1 actually takes you there.

To stop from having to take off the side panel and unplug/replug the new 120mm fan everytime I want to turn on my PC I've temporarily rigged up the old fan.

How do I change the BIOS on my PC to allow it to boot up with the 120mm fan? If that is even what I need to do? If not, what do I need to do?

Also, I intend on buying a fan controller so that I can install two additional 120mm fans (three in total including the new one supplied with the new case) - but will a fan controller work with this motherboard?

The more I search online for answers the more questions I seem to end up with.

The short answer is what you already knew. The 92mm fan works.  A 120mm fan at a slower RPM triggers the 512 error. If you want a 120mm fan, find one that has a higher RPM. There are programs to rate the RPM of any fan.

CPUID HWMonitor  if you can not determine the FAN #, unplug while it is running, or just slow it down for a second. Just do not stop it with power on.  Then test the 92mm fan to get the RPM needed.

This fan is 1300 RPM, low noise at 19dB(A). 3 pin.
