The AMI BIOS update version F42 08B3B SP163236 fails with an error message of "Unable to open Device Firmware Image file". This error appears on a desktop HP ENVY TE01-5000i PC. The permissions on the directory and file have been checked, and they appear to have the proper permissions to access the file. The excuteable file is 08B3BF42.EXE. The file permissions were compared to other software file update files in the C:\SWSetup directory that have been successfully executed and applied. The PC successfully boots without any errors, and is useable at this time. Are there any reported problems with this update and/or file? Is there a work around for this problem? Is this BIOS update necessary? Thank you.

Greetings @Les711
Welcome to the HP Forum.
The BIOS update file you are trying to install is located at this HP Site.
The "Fixes" link at the above HP site is empty. So I don't know if there are necessary security updates included in this file.
You might want to skip this BIOS update for the time being since it may be a maintenance update.
Or you could try a second download of the BIOS update at the above HP Site in case your first download is corrupted.
I always recommend downloading the BIOS update for the specific HP PC. TE01-5000i is a generic PC product number that applies to a possible series of HP PCs.
You should use your HP PC's specific HP product number when doing BIOS updates. Instructions on finding the specific product number for your PC can be reviewed Here.
A specific product number for your PC might be something like TE01-5290gv.

Thank you Bill_To for addressing my concerns. As suggested, I downloaded the BIOS update from the HP website. This update was initiated by running it as administrator. But much to my dismay, it too failed with the same error as "Unable to open Device Firmware image file.". Since trying to install one BIOS update file downloaded from HP via the HP Support Assistant, and the second BIOS updated file downloaded from the HP website, one can only concluded at this time that the BIOS update file is a bad corrupt file from HP. I think I'll go with your suggestion and skip this update. Once again, thank you for your reply.

Greetings @Les711
My pleasure.
A different Forum member is also having the same problem installing this BIOS update on a different HP PC using the same MB.
This would seem to suggest a possible buggy BIOS update file.
