My laptop started acting weird by asking for admin credentials whenever i try to install or make changes to it.
I booted into safe mode and found two different accounts. one was admin and the other was my local user ID. I was able to sign into the admin account and found extra users which i deleted leaving just the admin and my local user account. I tried to restart my computer and after starting up, it showed an administrator account and says "your account has been disabled. Please see your system administrator."
I tried restarting and going back into the safe mode but it keeps showing my account is disabled.

Hi @Oluween,⭐Welcome to the HP Support Community! 👋
Thanks for reaching out!
Your HP Spectre x360 💻has encountered a frustrating snag – it's locked out of both administrator and local user accounts. The built-in Administrator account, your usual key to the kingdom, is disabled. Don't despair, though! 🧑🔧
Here are a few paths you can explore to reclaim access:
Enable the Administrator Account Using Advanced Startup
Force Windows Recovery Mode:
- Turn off your laptop completely.
- Turn it on and force shutdown by holding the power button as soon as the Windows logo appears.
- Repeat this 3 times until the Advanced Startup screen appears.
Access Command Prompt:
- Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
Enable the Built-in Administrator Account:
- Type the following command and press Enter:
- Close the Command Prompt and restart your laptop.
- Try logging in using the Administrator account (no password by default).
Reactivate Your User Account:
- Once logged in, open Command Prompt (Admin) and enter:
- Restart your system and check if you can log in to your account.
Use a Password Reset Disk or Another Admin Account
If you previously set up a password reset disk, insert it and follow the on-screen instructions to reset your user account.
If another account with administrator privileges exists, you can log in and reactivate your disabled account using:
"net user YourUsername /active:yes"
Use System Restore
- Boot into Advanced Startup using the steps in Solution 1.
- Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
- Choose a restore point before the issue started.
- Follow the instructions and wait for Windows to restore your system.
Reset Windows (Last Resort)
If all else fails, you might need to reset your laptop.
- Boot into Advanced Startup again.
- Select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Keep my files.
