Hi @198621

That is very unusual to see a BIOS update mess up a system disk. I have seen HP lock out certain devices with BIOS updates. Can't say this is your dilemma.

What SSD brand is causing this problem? Is this SSD an upgrade to the factory disk? If the SSD was an upgrade to the factory disk did you clone the OS from the factory disk to the new SSD?

Did you change any BIOS settings prior to installing the SSD, if this is the case? Like changing GPT to MBR when installing the OS clean and using BIOS Legacy mode instead of Secure boot.

Try the disk containing the factory OS installation, if possible, to see if you can load windows.

Don't know what else to say. Very unusual.

no, the SSD is from Kingston, it worked perfectly on the computer before the bios update. I tried to change it, I ordered one from Samsung, exactly the same problem

Hi @198621

Try setting the BIOS to defaults if you have not done this.

Seeing the same symptom using a brand new Samsung SSD sounds like the BIOS update has caused a problem.

Do you have access to a different PC to test the SSDs? This would verify the SSDs are okay if they work in a different PC.

You will have to try to flash the BIOS back to an earlier version such as F.62 Rev.A

HP usually prevents this action but there is a work around if you cannot flash back to a previous BIOS version..

Check this HP Forum Link. The process is fairly complex. It looks like you have a similar problem on a different PC; a faulty BIOS update.

Or have a local PC Tech do this for you.

You should also back up data on the SSD using a different PC because you may have to: reformat the disk and reinstall Windows or edit the system partition. The BIOS update is located in a System partition on the current Windows installation.

The bad BIOS update will install again unless you start with a clean Windows installation or edit the system partition to remove the bad BIOS update .bin and .sig files.
