After a simple update my pc doesn't recognize my H-drive anymore. That is my extern hard disc full of photos.

Have you tried all available USB ports?

 

What's happening in: Control Panel>Device Manager? Any errors or unknown devices?

 

Does the PC see other USB devices connected to USB ports?

 

Can you test the external HDD on a different PC?

 

Try rolling back the update if it was a Windows update. Or do a system restore.

 

Can you ID the update if it came from HP?
