When I turned on my computer all of the fonts on the home screen underneath all of the icons is now in symobols; squares, arrows, check marks etc. I cannot open anything on my computer because everything is written in symbols. The only thing I can use is the internet. I cannot access any files or open any new windows etc.
How do I resolve this?

You have changed the "default" font to the 'Symbols' font.
Once Windows is running:
1. Hold down the "Windows" key (bottom left of your keyboard).
2. Touch/release the "Pause/Break" key (top right of your keyboard).
3. Release the "Windows" key.
4. The first row of "text" on the left will be 'File Edit View Tools Help' (4 symbols, 4 symbols, 4 symbols, 5 symbols, 4 symbols).
5. Below that is the "text": 'Control Panel Home' (7 symbols, 5 symbols, 4 symbols).
6. Click there.
7. Look for an icon of the hands of a clock in front, and slightly to the left of a world-globe.
Text is 'Region and Language' (6 symbols, 3 symbols, 9 symbols).
8. Double-click there.
9. Open the top-most "pull-down" menu, to give you a choice from many languages.
10. Look for 'English (USA)' -- 7 symbols, '(', 3 symbols, ')'.
11. Select it.
12. Click 'OK' (bottom right).
