HP ENVY Desktop - TE01-1177c

HP Envy TE01-1177c, Windows 11.

Recently, At restart or shutdown, I receive a message on the screen that Realtek.Audio.Background.Process.Class is preventing the system from the shutdown.

I Have Tried

1) Windows Troubleshooting for the audio, but cannot find any issues.

2) Services and nothing by Realtek are disabled.

3) Device Manager - I've done updating, removing then scanning for hardware changes

4a) Hp. I downloaded the Realtek HD audio installation

4b) Hp. Bios updated about October to AMI F.43  (The previous version is still showing on the HP website)

5) All Windows Updates and optional updates are up to date

6) HP Support Assistant, No updates are showing

After all this. Realtek.Audio.Background.Process.Class  is still there and preventing normal shutdown.

I'm out of all ideas

Hi

Try checking Windows for file corruption. Open an Admin command prompt. Options for doing this are available at this link: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/open-elevated-command-prompt-as-administrator-in-windows-11.4201/

Input the following: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Upon completion of the first test then input: sfc /scannow

Check shutdown and restart after completing both procedures.

Run diagnostics at startup.

Start the PC. Tap "ESC".

Select "F2". Run system and component tests. I don't think you have a hardware problem but this is an additional troubleshooting option. Storage device or memory problems can cause weird stuff.

Could be a problem with the current Realtek audio driver and the version of Windows 11 you are running. You may have to wait for a HP Realtek audio driver update or a Microsoft fix.

You could reinstall Windows but I would not go there. This is the last troubleshooting option available but backing up data and going through this tedious process is not cost effective given the error you are experiencing.

An offline OS image backup restoration using bootable USB recovery media made prior to this issue may fix the problem. Or you could try a Microsoft system restore.

Hi,

I've got through the steps you provided to this point below.

I highly presume this is what is responsible for the issue as I've already been through your other steps earlier for another issue and this was also happening there.

Hopefully, HP can nudge Realtek and Microsoft for a fix

I'm not going to get back into the system restore as it deals with only the main drive.  I have apps linked to the secondary drive and other settings and apps linked to it.

Thanks for all your help, Bill_To

Edited in orange: I didn't reference to the secondary drive as the one having other settings and apps linked to it.

Hi

My pleasure.

I recall seeing misbehaving driver issues such as you are having using W7 or Vista.

Not so much with W10. It's still too early to grade W11 and the hardware manufacturers.
