Hi all, I’m having trouble accessing the BIOS on my HP Omen 30L (model GT13-1000i). The system boots into Windows just fine, but any attempt to enter the BIOS results in a blank white screen. This happens whether I press DEL during boot, use the UEFI firmware option via Shift + Restart, or any other method.

🔧 What I’ve Tried So Far

  • BIOS Recovery via USB:

    • Formatted a USB stick to FAT32.
    • Tried all rear USB ports on the motherboard.
    • Downloaded BIOS files from the official HP support page:
      HP Omen 30L BIOS Downloads
    • There are 6 different BIOS files listed (from different families?)—I’m unsure which is correct, but I’ve tested a few.
  • Recovery Methods Attempted:

    • Used Windows + B and Windows + V key combos during boot.
    • The system responds with 3 long beeps and 2 short beeps, which I believe means it can’t find the recovery file.
  • File Placement:

    • Tried placing the BIOS files in the root directory of the USB.
    • Also used HP’s recovery installer to create the folder structure:
      Hewlett-Packard > BIOS > Current

🆘 Still Stuck

Despite all this, I’m unable to access the BIOS or trigger a successful recovery. Any advice from the community would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

Thought it would be worth sharing in case anyone else gets this issue in the future.
I've managed to get around the issue with what I thought was originally the BIOS.

Swapped out the ram to lower speed 2100Mhz RAM, single slot.
Swapped out the GPU with an old RX 570.

Once I did this, the BIOS menus started working again...
Not sure if this is multiple issues in one (definately feels like it).

Have firmwared the BIOS now as well after booting into windows. Can confirm that I'm able to get to every area.

Hopefully helps someone else in the future.

Cheers.

Greetings @CameronMuirhead

Welcome to the HP Forum.

My guess is the BIOS is intact if the PC will run Windows. Trying to install different HP BIOS file versions would not be indicated from my perspective.

Are you using a wireless keyboard? I've had problems getting to the BIOS when using wireless keyboards. Or Fast Startup enabled in Control Panel>Power options could cause this symptom.

Try repeatedly tapping the "ESC" key at PC power on to get to the HP UEFI Startup Menu. Then select "F10".

Or tap the "F10" key at PC power on. "F10 should load the main BIOS (Setup) screen.

Doing a "Shift-Restart" within Windows should take the PC to the Windows Recovery Environment. So it looks like your Windows Recovery Environment has a problem if you cannot get to the WinRE using "Shift-Restart". This would suggest the Windows Recovery Partition has a problem.

You should be able to access the BIOS within WinRE by selecting Troubleshoot>Advanced Options>UEFI Settings. Or within Windows try: Settings>System>Recovery>Advanced startup.

A HP Desktop PC 3:2 beep error code at power on points to a memory problem per this HP Site. Have you run HP Hardware Diagnostics to check hardware?

It seems like your PC has more than one problem based upon the information you have provided in this thread.

Hi @Bill_To,

Thanks for reaching out and trying to help. I do appreciate it.
Please find my replies below to your points:

My guess is the BIOS is intact if the PC will run Windows. Trying to install different HP BIOS file versions would not be indicated from my perspective. Windows will still boot even if the BIOS is corrupt, it only white-screens when I try to go into the BIOS on boot.

Are you using a wireless keyboard? I've had problems getting to the BIOS when using wireless keyboards. Or Fast Startup enabled in Control Panel>Power options could cause this symptom. Not using fFast Startup or wireless keyboard. Just using an old school generic wired keyboard and mouse.

Try repeatedly tapping the "ESC" key at PC power on to get to the HP UEFI Startup Menu. Then select "F10".

As mentioned above, any attempt to get to any of the BIOS menus on startup will just present a blank white screen.

Or tap the "F10" key at PC power on. "F10 should load the main BIOS (Setup) screen.

Also presents a blank white screen.

Doing a "Shift-Restart" within Windows should take the PC to the Windows Recovery Environment. So it looks like your Windows Recovery Environment has a problem if you cannot get to the WinRE using "Shift-Restart". This would suggest the Windows Recovery Partition has a problem. Shift restart does bring up Windows RE, its just when you try to get into the BIOS from this menu that also causes the white screen.

You should be able to access the BIOS within WinRE by selecting Troubleshoot>Advanced Options>UEFI Settings. Or within Windows try: Settings>System>Recovery>Advanced startup. Same answer as above.

A HP Desktop PC 3:2 beep error code at power on points to a memory problem per this HP Site. Have you run HP Hardware Diagnostics to check hardware? I will check this out, I have some spare RAM that I can swap into it and see if that makes a difference for the boot beeping. Will reply back this evening with results!

It seems like your PC has more than one problem based upon the information you have provided in this thread.

Greetings @CameronMuirhead

My pleasure.

I've never experienced a PC constantly going to a white screen when attempting to use UEFI firmware options. But the PC can run Windows okay.

Check your PC's hardware using HP Diagnostics as follows:

Start the PC. Repeatedly tap the "ESC" key.

Select "F2". Run extensive system and component tests to confirm: a drive problem, a memory problem, or other component problem.

You could also try removing the CR2032 MB coin cell battery to reset CMOS. Install a new CR2032 MB battery.

Disconnect the PC from AC power. Then depress the power button and hold down for about 10 seconds a couple of time to drain residual MB power.

Remove the CR2032 MB battery. Wait for about five minutes.

Install a new CR2032 MB battery.

Maybe this will help by resetting CMOS and using a new MB battery.

Thanks!

I'll try this when I'm home later this evening and send a video of the issue I'm experiencing to give it some more context.

You might have to try a HP bootable USB diagnostics drive if you see the white screen when trying to run local diagnostics ("ESC"/"F2").

This HP Site has a download link to create a bootable USB diagnostics drive. HP diagnostics should run outside of the operating system when using the bootable USB drive.

Again, it is unusual to see Windows work but you can't get into the BIOS.

Hi Bil,

Thanks again for helping out with this.
It's a really frustrating one!

So just to bring you up to speed. I had swapped out the RAM for some faster spec which was causing the 3 long and 2 short beeps. Thats now been resolved. The white screen bios bug still remains.

Just to clarify:
-Power on the PC
-No more beeps
-White blank screen (where I would normally expect BIOS to load)
-No windows environment. I think since I've changed some parts out, it wont boot into windows before going through BIOS setup now.
-I have also tested the CMOS battery in and out with a new one. Unfortunately, no luck.

I'll try and attach some videos/images below to help paint the picture. I've tried the WIN+B on boot method with a USB in the back but it doesnt seem to be able to see any of my BIOS files that I've loaded onto it (not sure if theyre the right ones).
E:\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current
>08703.bin
>08703.sig

Any more support is greatly appreciated! Last thing I want to have to do is replace the whole motherboard because of this BIOS 🙂

Also, thought I should mention the following.

-Have tried ESC and F10 upon boot. It just displays the white screen as normal.
-Have also downloaded the diagnostic tool you linked, but just wanted to confirm that this needs to be run on the Windows environment that hosts the BIOS? I can't run this off a USB can I and plug it in? (wont be able to navigate or boot to it).

Thanks again.

Greetings @CameronMuirhead

My pleasure.

You should be able to run HP diagnostics outside of Windows by booting to the bootable USB stick to check your PC's hardware.

I wish I could provide additional assistance but I am out of ideas.

Never encountered a white screen when trying to access the BIOS. But Windows also runs without any problems.

It's as if the BIOS is working, but the PC is having some kind of graphics output problem only when you try to use EFI functions (loading the BIOS or accessing the HP UEFI Startup Menu).

Have you tried a different discrete graphics card? Or try onboard graphics if the CPU and your PC's rear I/O support this.

You might need to have a local PC Tech take a look.
