Microsoft Windows 11

I have a HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2096 Bundle PC (318G8AA) with a BIOS Corruption Issue that I need help.  When I power up the PC it initially says, "BIOS corruption has been detected.  BIOS recovery will begin automatically when you restart your PC.  BIOS recovery will take several minutes.  Do not shut down or remove external power from your PC during the process." while making 8 beeping sounds.  Then it goes to the next screen that says, "HP BIOS Update: The System BIOS recovery failed.  Unable to open BIOS Signature file." Then is does a loop back and forwards between these 2 screens.

I've got the BIOS on my USB stick and initially followed HP's instructions to plug it in and power on the PC and somehow it's suppose to read the USB with the new BIOS and work but it didn't happen.

I then looked online and tried to enter the BIOS by doing the F2, F10, F11, Win + B, Win + V but to no avail.

Not sure what to do from here.

Hi @JJit,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We’re sorry to hear you're experiencing a BIOS corruption issue on your HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2096. We understand how critical it is to get your system back up and running. Based on your description, we’ll guide you through the recommended steps to resolve this.

1. Confirm USB BIOS Recovery Setup

Make sure your USB stick is:

  • Formatted to FAT32
  • Contains the correct BIOS file for your model (downloaded from HP's official site)
  • The BIOS file should be in the Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New folder structure on the USB

You can download the BIOS from HP here: 👉HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2096 Bundle PC (318G8AA) Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

2. Try Manual BIOS Recovery (Win + B or Win + V)

  1. Turn off the PC and disconnect the power for 5–10 seconds.
  2. Insert the USB stick with the BIOS file.
  3. Hold down the Windows key + B (or V if B doesn’t work).
  4. While holding the keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds, then release the Power button but keep holding Win + B/V.
  5. Wait for beeps or the BIOS recovery screen to appear.

If successful, the system should begin recovering the BIOS from the USB.

3. If That Fails – Reset Embedded Controller (EC)

Sometimes the EC needs to be reset:

  • Turn off the PC and unplug the power cord for 5 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn on the PC.

This can help clear any EC-related issues that might block BIOS recovery.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
