Hello!
I saw a BIOS update prompt upon restarting my PC yesterday, of which I clicked to update. After the update, the screen was blank for an hour plus with no sign of activity other than the fans spinning.
I've tried force restarting, clearing the CMOS power, unplugging and replugging in, Win + B, Win + C, various ESC and F2, F9, F10 key presses, and even made a BIOS recovery installer that my PC didn't detect. I've also tried plugging my display directly to the motherboard instead of my GPU with no other result.
It still doesn't do anything else as of right now... does anyone have any idea what I can do from here?

@Robert482, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your BIOS Update Failed!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It looks like you tried several recovery methods without success. Below are the detailed steps you can follow to recover your BIOS if it became corrupted. Follow these instructions carefully:
Recovering the BIOS
When the BIOS on your computer becomes corrupted, it can fail to boot to Windows. The BIOS can be corrupted during normal operation, through environmental conditions like power surges or outages, from a failed BIOS upgrade, or due to virus damage.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the computer.
- Disconnect the AC adapter.
- Remove any discs from the disc drive.
- Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
- Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives. (Note: Do not disconnect your mouse, keyboard, or monitor).
- With the AC adapter unplugged, press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
Reset the CMOS
Use the following procedure to reset the CMOS and recover the BIOS if the automatic recovery fails:
- Turn off the computer.
- Press and hold the power button for 25 seconds, and then turn on the computer.
Alternatively, for other models:
- Press and hold the Windows + v keys, and then simultaneously press the power button.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Good Afternoon,
I tried these steps outlined and still nothing outputs to the screen. I've held the power down when fully unplugged and again when plugging it in and tried both with and without the Win + V keypress.
The PC clearly still powers on, my graphics card lights up and spins and my other fans spin up and even power comes out of the USB ports, but that's about it.

@Robert482, Thanks so much for getting back to us — I completely understand how frustrating this must be, especially when everything seems to power on, but you're left staring at a blank screen. I’m really sorry you’re going through this, but I’m here to help however I can.
You’ve clearly been thorough — from CMOS resets to BIOS recovery attempts, you've done a lot of the right things already, which tells me you know your way around your PC. Since we’re still not getting any video output even after all those steps, we might be dealing with a corrupted BIOS that’s unfortunately not recovering through the usual key combinations or USB recovery.
Let’s try a couple more things to cover all bases:
Double-check the BIOS recovery USB setup
Sometimes the USB formatting or file structure can be a little picky. Here's what I'd suggest:
Use a 16GB or smaller USB drive (ideally USB 2.0).
Format it as FAT32.
Download the BIOS file specific to your PC model from the HP Support website.
Use the HP BIOS Update utility to extract the contents onto the USB (don’t just copy/paste the .exe).
Insert the USB into a USB 2.0 port, preferably on the back of the tower.
Now try the Windows + B (or Windows + V) key combo again before pressing the power button, and hold it for 5-10 seconds after powering on.
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi,
The only 16GB or less USB-Drive I have is an iPod Nano 7 (16GB). (note I HAVE recovered Windows with it in the past, but not a BIOS update) I enabled disk use on it, formatted to FAT32, and used a Windows device to run the installer on it and flash it. Upon being enabled for disk use, I plugged it into the back of my PC via a lightning to USB 2 cable and ran the steps you outlined.
There is still no display output. What else can I try doing?
Edit: The keyboard/mouse/iPod didn't receive any power from the USB ports either.
