HP support assistant had me download SP143378, a BIOS update for my system.  The assistant runs the installer, but nothing happens.  The BIOS does not update.

Hi @rhfritz

I would not update the BIOS unless you are having a problem.

Try downloading the BIOS Here. Run the executable to update the BIOS.

Don't shut down the PC. Any loss of AC power is a bad thing when updating the BIOS.

Be patient. A failed BIOS update will corrupt the BIOS.

I was troubleshooting what I thought was a PCIe issue and was at least a year and two revisions back.  As it turned out, perhaps not on the first power-down and reboot, but the second or third, at POST the system righted itself and applied the BIOS updates.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi @rhfritz

My pleasure.

Hopefully your PC works correctly after the BIOS update.

@Bill_To,

To your earlier point, what would be helpful is if the BIOS updates were accompanied by Release notes indicating what was fixed in the revision.  Then we'd know if it was a legitimate use of our time to apply it.

Hi @rhfritz

I agree.

Having more information is knowledge.

Unfortunately, all MB manufacturers keep BIOS update details close to the vest.

The entire Tech industry is an unfathomable mathematical matrix.
