OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop PC GT15-0000a (4Q9S1AV)

Hello, since updating my BIOS from F.20 to F.34, I have been experiencing a lot of performance issues leading to most games being unplayable due to such low FPS which should not be the case considering my specs (detailed below). I have tried the easy fixes such as a clean install of windows, update all drivers etc but with no luck. I can confirm there is no cooling issues, my temperatures are always well within range, even under load. I was wondering if anyone has an installer for a BIOS version prior to F.34(F.20 if possible) for me to test if this was the issue? I have tried to download the previous drivers from the HP page, however, I get the below message when trying to roll back the BIOS version and I am unable to manually flash the BIOS due to reduced settings within the HP boot setup:

"The BIOS you are installing is older than the current version in the system and cannot be executed."

@Alex80998, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Since you've already ruled out thermal issues and have tried reinstalling Windows and updating drivers, it's very likely that the BIOS update (F.34) is causing the performance issues.

How to Roll Back BIOS on HP OMEN 25L GT15-0000a

HP restricts downgrading BIOS versions to prevent potential firmware corruption, but there are a few possible workarounds.

1. Check if HP Allows BIOS Rollback via HP BIOS Update Utility

Create a BIOS Recovery USB Drive:

1. Download the latest HP BIOS update utility for your PC from the HP Support Website.

2. Run the BIOS update EXE file, but do not proceed with the update.

3. Instead, select Create Recovery USB Drive and follow the instructions.

4. Restart the PC and enter the BIOS recovery mode (usually by pressing Win + B while turning it on).

Try BIOS Rollback:

If the rollback option is available, it will allow you to install an older version.

2. Reset BIOS to Default Settings

Sometimes, a new BIOS update changes internal power limits or memory settings. Try:

1. Enter BIOS (Press F10 at boot).

2. Load Default Settings (Press F9 to restore defaults).

3. Disable HP Performance Throttling (If Available).

4. Enable XMP Memory Profile (If Available).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Max,

Thanks for your suggestions!

Unfortnately, due to the BIOS limitations on an HP Omen, I am unable to manually update the BIOS through a USB as you have suggested. I was able to use an older version of the HP UEFI tool and select a firmware update through that, however, it would reach about 20% and tell me something along the lines of this BIOS file cannot be opened.

Do you have any insights on this?

Thanks in advance.

@Alex80998, Thank you for your response.
Possible Workarounds

1. Check HP’s HP_TOOLS Partition for Older BIOS Files

Sometimes, HP keeps older BIOS versions in a hidden partition (HP_TOOLS).

  1. Open File Explorer and check if a drive named HP_TOOLS exists.
  2. Navigate to HP_TOOLS\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current and look for a .bin or .sig file.
  3. If you find an older BIOS version there, try flashing it using the HP UEFI update tool.

2. Modify BIOS File to Bypass Block (Advanced & Risky)

You can try renaming the .bin file of the older BIOS to match the name of the F.34 version. However, this is risky and might not work:

  1. Extract the BIOS file (spxxxxx.exe) using a tool like 7-Zip.
  2. Find the .bin file inside the extracted folder.
  3. Rename it to match the current BIOS file name (F.34.bin).
  4. Use HP’s UEFI tool again to attempt the flash.

⚠️ Warning: This method might brick your motherboard if the firmware structure is different.

3. Wait for a New BIOS Update

I hope this helps!
