HP Slimline Desktop - 270-a047cb

Hi,

i recently tried to upgrade my PC to a SSD. I was having issues getting it to recognize and thought that a BIOS upgrade might do the trick.

Based on the HP site, i loaded the following version: 822FF Version F.29 Rev.A - Date: 7/13/2020

My previous BIOS version was the following: 82FF vF.11 - date on that is 05/02/2017

Now my PC will not boot.

On the new drive - I am able to boot up in safe mode. But when i do a restart and try to  boot up normally, I get a blue screen.

On the old drive - I am not able to get the Safe mode to work, so i can't get past the HP Logo.

I wanted to downgrade to the original version, but i do not see that anywhere on the HP Downloads under the Previous Versions..

I have attempted to Rollback, by holding down WIndows + B  - This just reinstalls the F29.

I have also attempted to install a previous version using a USB, but when i insert the USB it cannot load the file.

Thanks in advanced for any help

Hi @walterrodriguez, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the BIOS update may have caused compatibility issues with your SSD and old drive. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Step 1: Reset BIOS Settings to Default

  1. Turn off your PC and then turn it back on.
  2. Immediately start pressing F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS Setup.
  3. Look for an option like Load Setup Defaults or Reset BIOS to Default (usually under the "Exit" tab).
  4. Save and Exit (F10).

Step 2: Try Disabling Secure Boot & Enabling Legacy Boot

  1. In BIOS, navigate to Security > Secure Boot Configuration.
  2. Disable Secure Boot and Enable Legacy Support (if available).
  3. Save and restart.

Step 3: Check SATA Mode

  1. In BIOS, find Storage Configuration / Advanced Settings.
  2. Check if SATA mode is set to AHCI (if using SSD). If it's in RAID/Intel RST, switch to AHCI.

Step 4: Boot from Windows Installation USB & Repair

  1. Create a Windows 10/11 installation USB using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool.
  2. Boot from the USB (press F9 or ESC > Select Boot Device).
  3. Choose Repair your computer > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.

Step 5: Downgrade BIOS to F.11

Since Win + B only reinstalls F.29, follow this method to force BIOS rollback:

  1. Find a compatible older BIOS version: HP doesn't always list previous versions. You might need to search on forums or request it from HP Support.
  2. Prepare a Recovery USB:
    • Download an older BIOS (if found).
    • Use HP BIOS Update tool (spXXXXX.exe) to create a recovery USB.
    • Boot while holding Win + B and wait 5 minutes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
