The HP Pavilion gaming PC 790-0050xt CTO had run well and fast until I downloaded HP Support Assistant, which recommended to update BIOS. It turns out the recommendation is deadly since the PC stops working as soon as I update the BIOS.

The option, Recovering the BIOS using a USB recovery drive, mentioned in your link worked. Thank you very much. Once the computer backs to work, the HP Support Assistant recommends...(I dare not to update anything for fear of messing up the computer again).
Do you know why HP Support Assistant recommends something not helpful for this model, but works with my older HP Envy Phoenix? It is really mind-boggling.

Hi,
You're very welcome.
I can't say for sure why HP Support Assistant (HPSA) provides incorrect BIOS updates. Some HP PCs use different MBs within the product series. HPSA may recommend an incorrect BIOS update in this situation. The BIOS update MB SSID must match the MB SSID for your specific PC.
It is best to go to the Download site for your specific PC. Then check if multiple BIOS updates are offered based on the MB SSID. Then check the HP product specification site for your motherboard SSID so you can select the correct BIOS update at the download site.
Download the update. Install the update manually.
