Hi @Molly1209,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Envy X360 laptop is stuck on "initializing" during a BIOS update, it's important to handle the situation carefully to avoid potential issues. Here are some steps you can try.
- Wait a Little Longer: Sometimes, BIOS updates can take some time, especially if it's a major update. While an hour seems long, it may still be in the process. You could wait a bit longer to see if it progresses.
- Hard Reset: If waiting doesn't work, you can perform a hard reset. To do this, press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds until the laptop turns off. Then, press the power button again to turn it on. This might trigger the laptop to restart the update process.
- Check for Power: Ensure your laptop is connected to a power source and has a stable power supply. Interrupting a BIOS update due to a dead battery can result in serious issues.
- Use HP BIOS Recovery: Some HP laptops have a feature called "HP BIOS Recovery" that allows you to recover from a failed BIOS update. This usually involves creating a BIOS recovery USB drive and following specific instructions from HP's support documentation. You should check your laptop's user manual or the HP website for guidance on this.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
