Have an HP Envy computer that is about 4 years old.  Started to get BSOD's.  Here is what I am seeing in the debug.  Any ideas where to look for an update or what to do to resolve this.

Hi  @BenB6

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that your HP ENVY has recently started experiencing Blue Screen errors, and dont worry  I'll be glad to help gather some additional details and suggest a few steps.

To better understand the situation, could you kindly share:

  • The version of Windows currently installed
  • Did the issue start after a Windows update, HP software update, driver update, or hardware change?
  • How frequently does the system crash?
  • Are the crashes only occurring when specific HP software is running, or do they happen during normal use as well?

From the information you have provided, the crashes appear to be occurring while the hp-plugin-exec process is active, and the system is reporting an error involving disk.sys, which is a Windows storage driver.

This can sometimes be related to corrupted system files, storage driver issues, HP software components, outdated BIOS versions, or drive health concerns.

As some initial steps, kindly try the below steps and confirm :

  1. Update Windows completely
    • Open Settings -Windows Update.
    • Install all available updates and restart the PC.
  2. Update HP drivers and BIOS
    • Run HP Support Assistant and install all recommended updates.
    • Ensure the BIOS, chipset, storage, and system drivers are up to date.
  3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
    • Restart the computer and tap F2 repeatedly at startup.
    • Run the System Tests, especially the Storage Test and Memory Test.
  4. Check Windows System Files
    • Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:
    • sfc /scannow
  5. Check Drive Health
    • Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:
    • chkdsk /scan
    • Note and share any errors that are reported.

I wanted to share my experience because I encountered an almost identical crash signature on my HP Pavilion desktop running Windows 11.

Following the August 2026 Windows security update KB5121003, my computer began experiencing repeated daily kernel crashes, frequently between 9:30 and 9:40 PM. WinDbg analysis of multiple crash dumps identified hp-plugin-exec as the active process, including a 0x139 bugcheck with parameter 0x1D involving disk.sys, very similar to the results you've posted.

Over several weeks, I performed extensive troubleshooting, including HP hardware diagnostics, memory and storage testing, driver updates and rollbacks, DISM SFC repairs, and an in-place Windows repair installation. The hardware diagnostics were clean, but the recurring crashes continued.

Further investigation identified hp-plugin-exec as part of the HP One Agent software environment. However, initially targeting that component alone did not resolve the problem. I subsequently uninstalled the parent HP One Agent software and disabled remaining associated HP services, including HpTouchpointAnalyticsService, HPNetworkCap, and HPDiagsCap.

Following that broader HP software cleanup, the recurring nighttime system crashes stopped and have not returned. However, Windows Error Reporting has continued to resurface reports of earlier crashes, producing multiple apparent BlueScreen events in Event Viewer at least four times a day, despite no corresponding physical crashes.

I cannot confirm whether HP One Agent itself caused the underlying memory corruption or whether it was interacting with the August Windows update or another driver. However, given the similarities in our crash dumps, I thought this information might be helpful to you and others experiencing the same issue.

I would recommend investigating the HP One Agent software environment in association with Microsoft's KB5121003 update before assuming the problem is defective memory or storage hardware. Rolling back that update is no longer possible through normal uninstall methods on my system because subsequent updates have superseded it. Microsoft's final recommendation to me was to reinstall Windows.

Hope that helps.
