Hi @Colton17,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check the Power Source and Connections

  • Ensure that the power outlet is working correctly.
  • Verify that the power adapter is securely connected to both the laptop and the power outlet.
  • Check for any damage to the power cord and adapter. If there are visible damages, consider replacing them.

Inspect the Charging Port

  • Examine the laptop's charging port for any debris, dust, or damage. Clean it carefully using a soft brush or compressed air.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the charger and any other connected devices.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect the charger and try turning on the laptop.Test with a Different Charger
  • If possible, use a different compatible charger to see if the issue lies with the original charger.

Battery Health Check

  • Since the laptop has been unused for a long time, the battery might have deteriorated. Connect the charger and attempt to power on the laptop. If it powers on with the charger connected but not without it, this is a strong indication that the battery may need replacement.

Update BIOS and Drivers

  • If the laptop powers on, check for any BIOS and driver updates that could resolve charging issues.
  1. Visit the HP Support Website.
  2. Enter your laptop model and look for any available BIOS and driver updates.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the BIOS and drivers.

Advanced Troubleshooting

  • Access the BIOS settings to check if the laptop recognizes the battery.
  1. Turn off the laptop and then turn it back on.
  2. Press the “Esc” key repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  3. Press “F2” to access the System Diagnostics.
  4. Choose “Component Tests” and then select “Power” to test the battery.

Battery Replacement

  • If the battery is not recognized and the laptop only works when plugged in, you may need to replace the battery. Contact HP Support or an authorized service provider for battery replacement options.

I hope this helps.
