Hi vick1223,

Welcome to the HP Community! I am a new volunteer here participating in the HP Solve-a-thon, and I can guide you through fixing this startup issue.

This error message means that the primary BIOS on your motherboard has experienced a fault, and the system is trying to restore itself using a backup copy. However, it cannot find that backup copy on your hard drive (which is why it says the recovery files are missing or corrupted).

Fortunately, HP motherboards have a built-in hardware recovery feature. Here are the two official ways to force the system to recover:

Method 1: The Key Combination Recovery (Try this first)

Sometimes the files are on the drive, but the system just needs a manual override to initiate the recovery process.

  1. Turn off the computer completely and unplug the power cord from the wall/laptop.

  2. Wait 30 seconds, then plug the power cord back in.

  3. Press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time.

  4. While still holding those two keys, press and hold the Power button for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button.

  5. Keep holding the Windows and B keys until you hear a sequence of beeps or see a black screen that says "HP BIOS Update". If the screen appears, let it run its course—it may reboot a few times automatically.

Method 2: USB Flash Drive Recovery (If Method 1 fails)

Since your error specifically states the files cannot be found, Method 1 might not work. In that case, you will need to manually provide the BIOS files to the motherboard using a USB drive.

To give you the exact instructions for this, I need to know exactly which computer you have. Please reply with your exact HP model number or Product Number (PN) (this is usually found on a sticker on the back of a desktop or the bottom casing of a laptop).

Once you provide your model number, I will walk you through exactly how to create a BIOS Recovery USB drive using a working computer to get your system back up and running!
