Slimline 260-p026
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Microsoft told me I needed to update my BIOS to solve an audio problem (no sound unless I run the audio trouble shooter and then reboot each time I start the computer).  This started when Windows 10 update 1809 was installed.  I have the latest Intel audio driver for 1809.  My BIOS is version F31.  I was sent an update for update F38.  It is downloaded on my computer but I get an" installation failed" message each time I try to install it.  What do I do now?

Hi,

In rhe model number after the 260-p026 are there any further letters? (Example: 260-p026d

Anyway, this is the latest BIOS offered on HP support page for your model:

audio driver

No, there are no other letters after the model #.  The only thing after the model number is "Energy Star".

There is only one BIOS update listed (F37) for my ROM family and that one does not show my current version (F31) as a prior version.  The update HP sent me (F38) is not listed on the HP site.

Still searching for a solution/answers.  Here is everything I know about it.

Computer was put into service 2/17 - Motherboard is 81B4 - don't know what BIOS version was on it at that time

HP Support Assistant shows a BIOS update installed on 8/2/17 - It does not show what version

Windows System Information shows the current BIOS as F31, installed on 11/02/17 (although HP Support Assistant doesn't show any update on that date)

HP Support Assistant sent me BIOS update F38 in January 2019.  I have tried numerous times to install it.  It downloads but will not install.

This update (F38) is not listed on the HP Consumer Support Software and Driver download page as available BIOS updates for my computer.

The Software and Driver page shows three BIOS updates for my computer model.  Two of them are for different Motherboards.  One (F37) is for my Motherboard ROM family, but does not show my current F31 as a prior version.  It shows F34 as the most recent prior version, and F20 before that - neither of these have I had.

Why would HP send me a BIOS update that is not listed on their driver page?

What are the possible reasons why BIOS update F38 will not install (when every other update sent to me by HP Support Assistant has installed without problem)?
